Comprehensive Spinal Rehab Program

Spine

The Spinal Rehab Program includes our comprehensive MedX rehabilitation program for the treatment of chronic neck and back pain utilizing the latest in exercise technology to reduce unnecessary friction and strain on joints and muscles.  MedX machines are specially designed to provide the most effective means of isolating, safely testing, and directly strengthening the muscles and stabilizing the low back and neck.

Postural training and core strengthening are key elements to the Spinal Rehab Program.  During your sessions, you will learn how to strengthen deep muscle and superficial muscle layers.  This will serve to increase stability, improve posture and protect the spine from unwanted stress and strain, as well as improving cardiovascular health, assisting with weight loss and improving overall health and fitness.
Flexibility training has many positive health benefits including preventing of injury, increasing relaxation, raising body awareness, and promoting circulation which helps to reduce pain symptoms.  Patients will learn a flexibility training routine that over time will increase flexibility and aid in reducing pain symptoms.

Patients will be provided with an individual unloading therapy plan to meet their specific needs and abilities.  Unloading is based on the theory that reducing intradiscal pressure will relieve neck and back pain by allowing the flow of nutrients into the damaged areas of the spine.

Patients will also participate in cardiovascular training regimens which include workouts on our treadmills and ellipticals, aquatic therapy in our state of the art pool, and yoga therapy with a trained member of our staff.  These regimens will work to get patients heart rates into the recommended range of 60-85% of their maximal heart rate for thirty minutes three to four times per week.  According to the American College of Sports Medicine this will work to increase a person’s life expectancy, decrease the risk of coronary heart disease, and raise their pain threshold by releasing endogenous opioids.
